4/8/2023 0 Comments Capture one 10 reviewI understand if new features related to usage are limited to later software versions (otherwise no one would ever buy the software again once they had a copy) but to restrict based on operating system or camera model is cruel in my opinion. I find it misleading that the C1.21 licence purchase only really lasts a year or less because it does not support Windows 11 and it no longer supports any newly released cameras. At the moment my computer is trying to update to Windows 11 but this would mean capture one 21 would no longer function. It is effectively a short term licence and still feels like software rental unless you plan on not upgrading your camera to a new model and not allowing your computer to update to the latest OS. If you buy a Capture One 22 licence do not expect that you will have support for new cameras and operating systems once they release next years version. I will be reverting to Silkypix and my advice to any potential Capture buyer is to consider how very expensive it is, is it any better than other software, are you happy to have to subscribe endlessly, or buy a fresh very expensive version each year, and manage with very poor or non-existent support. ![]() It is a relief to feel confident in a product once more. I have just downloaded the latest version Silkypix Studio Pro 11 and all works exactly as it should, the couple of questions I have asked have been answered same day (there is an eight hour time difference between Japan & UK, so excellent service) or early next day, and by people who actually know what they are talking about. With Capture it seems there is a "new" version annually, it's very expensive and support is all but useless if you choose not to buy. All earlier versions fully function and are supported if there are problems. 9 & 10 to the latest 11) and don't appear anywhere near as often. Updates to newer versions are modestly priced for existing users (just over £50 in the UK from V. Silkypix is far easier to use, has features which actually work, doesn't rely on the awful, clunky Capture One type catalogue system (a total nightmare) and the support is far, far superior. I used Silkypix Studio Pro for many years - right up to V.10 before deciding to try Capture One 21 as there was a slight hitch last year with Mac OS, which Silkypix had not then caught up with. As a professional user I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. If thinking of buying be aware a subscription is the only half viable option and that in my opinion is grossly overpriced for what it is. I suspect the ridiculous answer I got is little more than a crowbar effort to push me into an expensive update. ![]() ![]() On that subject, I have fixed one issue myself (the instruction is completely lacking in their User Guide or video tutorial) and am entirely confident neither question has anything whatsoever to do with the operating system version. Needless to say, neither support question has been answered. It took a week to get any response to the initial support question - painfully slow in any event - and no doubt I will wait a further week for a response to my reply to them. As there is no warning of this when you buy, I regard it as highly misleading and unethical. That is appalling customer service and not an experience I will ever repeat. As others have said, Capture One doesn't really offer a one time licence - it's a one time licence for a few months or one year, if you are lucky, or until the next operating system update. I have little doubt based on the sharp practice I have experienced, and read from others, that anyone buying the latest version will find the same problem next year and will be forced to upgrade yet again, repeated next year and so on. I suggested to them that if an expensive product bought one year ago is incompatible with a Mac software update just months later, then Capture One 21 was unfit for purpose under UK consumer law and to arrange my refund. 12.5 and suggesting I download the trial version of Capture One 22. After submitting two support questions last week I got a response almost a week later telling me my Capture One build version 14.4 is incompatible with the latest Mac IOS Monterey v. I agree with the last reviewer CEX and, like him, I bought a one time licence for Capture One 21 just a year ago in July 2021.
